Roulette Versions

Roulette is originally French where it originated in the 17th century but soon spread to many parts of European and acquired the name European Roulette. This spread has also meant more variations of the game and today European and American tables have replaced the original French tables around the world. The European and American roulette table layouts are nearly the same except that the American has a second zero pocket while the European has just one zero pocket and the sequence of numbers are also different.

The French roulette table and wheel resemble the European with one zero pocket except that layout is different and there are no individual colored chips. French roulette a stick is used the dealer and stickman to announce results and collect the chip from around the table to pay the winner which slows the pace of the game compared to the American version. Colored chips are used for each player in the American and European versions the chips are collected by hand and the winner paid by hand.

With the spread of roulette to many parts of the world, the European Roulette has also been called American Roulette because of its table layout.

The Variations

American roulette game in French casinos and US casinos is referred to as the American Roulette with double zeros.

American Roulette in casinos other than the US and France is called American Roulette with a single zero. It is also called Fair Roulette in some European countries because the second zero pocket on the double zero version is believed to tilt the advantage in favor of the dealer.

French casinos use the term English Roulette to refer to American Roulette with a single zero.

The French Roulette is more distinct around the world with a wide table layout and stickmen that handle the chips. It is known exclusively as French Roulette wherever you find the game.

America Roulettes come with either a single or double zero but are played in a similar manner. It is generally faster than the French Roulette due to the fact that hands are used or collecting chips and its table layout is significantly different from the French.

Americans use the term European Roulette to refer to roulette with a single zero irrespective of the table lay out and to them there is no much difference between French roulette and American roulette with single zero.
